“I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number of carats in a diamond.”
I have always loved jewelry. I can remember running up and down the stairs as a little girl with my sister Lauren at our Grandma Edie's house in Miami Beach. My grandmother (probably in an effort to get us to calm down) would call us up to her room, and in a very dramatic way, she would ask if we wanted to try on her jewelry. We would calmly sit on the edge of her bed, and quietly wait as she distributed pieces for us to try on, one at a time. Each piece was special, and each piece had a fascinating story. We were captivated.
Through CaratJuice.com I hope to share my passion for jewelry while exploring historic collections, antique and period jewelry, the latest designs and trends, gemological finds, celebrity styles, upcoming exhibitions, and more. I hope you are as captivated, fascinated, and excited as I am by my discoveries.
My career as a jeweler and gemologist has been a colorful journey. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, I have collected gems and minerals for as long as I can remember. As a college student at the University of Arizona, it was inevitable that I would find my way into one of the hundreds of gem shows that take over the city of Tucson every February. (My first gem show purchase were a few rough fire opals, which I still have!) After living briefly in NYC, I moved to Austin, Texas, earned a Masters degree in Educational Psychology, and I have continued to gain as much experience as possible in the industry, training in gem faceting and jewelry design, earning my Bench Jeweler's certificate, working on television as a host and on-screen jewelry expert for several years, and have recently completed my Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America.
